Any tips / tricks to removing this type of steering wheel?
Actually want to install it on my '74, assuming that the center section simply comes off to access the nut that retains it on the steering column?

Pull the horn pad off, pull the old one. Use a friend to hold the wheel during removal or you risk breaking the wheel lock. i think the nut is 22mm. Make the cancel is there and install. Test horn and cancel for the blinkers.

The horn pad snaps off and you can then remover the nut.
Some of my sockets won't fit to get the 20something mm nut off (not sure if it is this particular wheel - I've had many). But, if your socket won't fit, a plumbing wrench works well - this is the type of wrench that is used for removing shower valves and it's very close to the nut on the steering wheel. |
The nut on my wheel is 27 mm.
A standard deep socket seems to work just fine. Make sure the steering column lock is disengaged before you break it loose. Push down not up so you do not hit your face or break your windshield. |
Thanks gentlemen.
