Do you like to drive fast 911's??
Do you like to play games on your computer? If so, then check out a racing game called Sports Car GT by EA Sports. You can choose to drive a 911 GT2 with 500HP! If you have the right setup - steering wheel with pedals - fast processor - nice video card and sound, big monitor then it is a very lifelike game. The electronic pcar handles a lot like the real deal - and can be good practice for getting ready for the track. |

Sports car GT is a good racing game, many different cars on real tracks, like Laguna Seca, Lime Rock, Mosport, and Road Atlanta.
What is even better about Sports Car GT is that it it can be hacked. There are people out there building cars and tracks for it, and you can download for free. I have a bunch of 917's, including the "Pink Pig", 2 Gulf-Wyer cars, the Can-am 917/30, Ferrari 512S, Rothman's 962, and Steve McQueen's 908. Downloads are here: http://www.zianet.com/rockaria/SCGT/ Sports Car GT is also a fairly old game, and doesn't need the newest fastest PC to run (But a good 3D card helps). You may be able to find in in your local software stores bargain bin. I got my copy for free as it came with my steering wheel. Another good Porsche racing game is Need For Speed, Porsche Unleashed. You get to race Porsches from the history of the company, all sorts of 356's, 911s up to 73 (S & RS), 930's, 914, 944 (including S and turbo), and a wide variety of 964/993/996. Race cars available are the 550, 935/78 Moby d1ck, and GT1. This game has come up a few times before, search the archives for details. This is also a fairly old game, and can be found in the bargain bin. If you are going to get your kids a game console, look at the Playstation 2 and get Gran Turismo 3 for yourself. Make sure you get the steering wheel and pedals. Thanks for the feedback. I'll go out and start looking at the game systems today. A few months back, I bought a 1.8 GHz computer with a 64 MB NVIDIA GeForce 3 card with TV Out and Soundblaster Live, in anticipation of running some computer games. I may play this more than the kids.

I bought the GT3 Playstation 2 combo along with the Logitech Force Feedback wheel and pedals. The game is an absolute blast but the steering keeps dying on me. Apparently this is a known bug but after changing the wheel and the console and trying to play the game w/o the analog controller, the problem still persists. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have played the GT on PC and thought the game was excellent, however I was absolutly disappointed on Playstation. It was a joke. GT3 is great so as NFS Porsche Unleashed.
