Failure to recline on an 8-way electric seat. "89" 3.2L

Hi gang,

I have an "89" Carrera that has 8-way electricly adjustable seats. I recently had them recovered at a local upholstery shop. When I picked the seats up from the shop, one of the seats would not return from the forward position (released by using the side lever so as to gain access to the back seats) to the normal, upright position. Of course, it won't recline either. I asked the shop if it was reassembled correctly and they asured me that it was. However, my experience with this shop has bean a NIGHTMARE and I don't trust them at all. I also don't want them to touch it again! So, my questions are:

Does anyone have experience with these seats to know what is wrong?

Or does anyone know how these seats go together at the seat back pivot?

Does anyone have a resource that I can contact to figure this out?

I get the impression that there is an indexing mechanism that sets the default angle for the upright/locked position as it relates to the seat back release. Obviously, the electric reclining of the seat would move independently.

Thank you all for your help. I know there is an abundance of information out there, in the community.

John

Take off the hinge covers, the release cables might not be connected like in this picture.

They should be connected like this.

If the cables are connected, the oval piece might not have been installed correctly.
To make sure they are installed correctly, remove the little e-clip on top of the oval piece and pull the oval piece off the spline. With the cable end inserted in the little eye of the oval piece, pull down on the cable using the oval piece. While keeping the the downward tension on cable, insert the oval piece onto the spline. Slide the e-clip back on. Do this for both sides of the seat. Try the levers now.
When reinstalling the hinge covers, don't tighten the screws very much, the plastic breaks easily.
