In Desperate need of Part!!!!!!!

Hi everyone!

I removed my fan assembly this morning to replace my alternator, and found that the grey, conical alternator shroud (with the metal air guide fins) has not only a fin that's about to break off, but several of the bolt hole ears are broken as well. The Porsche part number is 911.106.033.05.

While I'd prefer a new one, I'd also be interested in a perfect used one as well. Any leads would be most appreciated! I've scoured the Pelican site, and have a message in to Parts Heaven, but I really need to get the ball rolling. I've also tried Ian's and several other used parts houses to no avail. The catch is that I need the part my tomorrow morning so I can get the car on the road by early afternoon.

By the way, does anyone have access to the Porsche parts listing through Atlanta, to see if there are any available? I'm getting mixed messages, as Stoddard told me the part is no longer available, and another place told me that it's a very popular item, and is still available, but couldn't check inventory. As usual, this adds to the difficulty.

Again, and help would be most appreciated!!!!

Thanks!!!

Automobile Atlanta said they can special order one for $85. Talk to Pattrick ex.25
770-427-2844. They don't have any used ones.

Thanks Derk!

I finally found one at Parts Heaven. According to Porsche, the part has been discontinued, but the dealers in my area leave a lot to be desired.

It seems Porsche is starting to discontinue parts that are desperately needed, and I wonder if there's a business opportunity here. Things like this particular alternator shroud would be a nice aftermarket item. Also, that little metal sticker that goes on the heater control panel (ever notice that 99% of the panels are missing this?) with the slider instructions.

Perhaps Wayne could pursue this???????

Tell me more about this "little metal sticker"--I've never had or seen one! I must be in that 99% group!

the sticker is on the inside of the glovebox door in the US anyway. the shroud is just fibreglass. you could repair it easily with resin and cloth, and pop rivet the fin back on.

The heater/defroster control panel on the dash has 3 rows of sliders (I'm not sure what year they started using this particular panel, but it's in my '78SC and was used into the 80's Carrera's I believe). Under the middle slider is a long, rectangular indentation that is supposed to have a self adhesive, metal "plate" that says:

"Max Defrost: Move Upper Levers Left, Lower Lever Right"

It seems like they started peeling off at the ends, and eventually breaking, so most folks must have simply peeled off the entire plate. Just about every control panel I've seen has it missing. Mine did, until I bought a new "used" panel that actually had it.
