1980 911SC no rev past 3000rpm

My car is not revving past 3000 RPM under load. Starts fine, runs fine, drives fine up to 3000 RPM. When it gets to 3000 it starts to sputter. If I feather the throttle it will climb slowly through 3000.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Or have any idea what it could be?

I had a very similar problem with my 78 SC. Rebuilt the warm up regulator and it was back to tip top shape. Just went through this under a month ago.

Suspect failing fuel pump. Can you monitor fuel pressure under load?

I change my fuel filter probably about five years ago?
I do not have a way to monitor feel pressure while driving. I have a fuel pressure test gauge. but I don't think it will reach into the cab so I can look at it while driving.
Did you get your rebuild kit for year WUR off pelican parts?

On my car this was due to a combination of running too rich and leaving my 3mm allen key in the adjustment screw for the CIS fuel distributor. i thought I could drive with the allen key in there to save time when I hopped in/out of the car while tuning it. I was wrong.

This happened to me when i plumbed in a exterior fueul filter with my replacement Tank . The hose kinked prior to pump and constricted fuel flow. Started and ran fine but 3k and above was not possible. If sag you have a fuel blockage.

Nothing worse than a clogged cat. Better pull it off and do a visual with a dental style mirror on a stick at the inlet.

No cat. No Allen. New plugs. New fule filter. New coil. WUR seams to work fine. Same problem!

This may not be correct, but if you do not have another WUR to try, how do you know yours is working fine? I went through the entire fuel system, had everything rebuilt from tank to injectors, also new coil, plugs, wires, and it turned out to be the WUR after the fact. The internal electrical parts of the warm up regulator goes bad over time. My bet is that is what happened, but like everyone has input, it could be a dozen things. Your distributor could be locked up, the green wire could have come undone, muffler jammed up. There was a thread on this for my SC about 2 months ago and many people had great advice.

CIS flowtech charged me $275-ish for a rebuild. So far, the best money I spent on my SC since I saved it from someone's yard.
