Duck tails on Targas

Just got this from GT Racing after an SUV got a little frisky. Fit is pretty good, top underneath edge needed a little shaping with a Dremel tool, still working on centering.

Should I paint it or leave it bare carbon? Was thinking of a carbon hood to match.

Thoughts?

BTW, anyone have a good center reflector?

Shaun

Paint it.

I can't tell from the pictures, but do you have a front lip spoiler? If you don't, you will need one to balance the car at speed.

How much does the duck tail weigh?

You have to paint it, or at least clearcoat it. The resin is not really u/v resistant and will yellow or break down if not cleared.

Yes, a front lip is going on this next weekend. I've been careful to keep the speed down. With all the plastic, it's probably 10-15 lbs. which is more than I expected, but then it does have a paintable surface.

I asked GT about UV and he claims to put in a UV protectant. That said, it looks like overwhelming opinion to paint. Will probably cut the RS off of a Carrera RS decal.

Leaving it Carbon might work if you get a hood to match and make it look kind of like a big fat racing stripe down the center (i.e. paint that little bit above the rear decklid black and do the same on the leading and trailing edge of the front). Just a random idea for something completely different.

Paint it - leaving it black makes it look incomplete.

Shaun, Leave it and paint the car carbon...I too have recently aquired a Duck Tail for my Targa. can't wait to get it mounted..
but in all seriousness, I feel that all the body parts should be colored matched, unless it's a full blown race car.

I'm not against bare parts in some situations, but I think that would look better painted. I have heard that red and silver can be a ***** to match since they fade so quickly.

id paint it. I have an early 911 that i am restoring that came with a Duck Tail and S front bumper, i like the tail but like the early non S bumper better. How much of a issue is running a duck tail with a non S bumper?

Paint it Porsche Granite green, i believe it was a custom color in 1987 and ship it to me, I'll let you know how well it looks painted to match my targa.
