Does anybody knows why?

Dear Friends

I´m rebuilding a 1976 911s and when I disassemble the brake system I notice that the rear calipers use lock washers and the front calipers use spring washer
I thought that someone just put what they have in hand by the time, but turns out that is correct
I´m curios to understand why?

Thanks

perhaps the front brakes generate too much heat which would take the spring tension out of the split lock washer rendering it "non-locking" ??? just my attempt at an explanation. either way,... fee bump. ;)

Hans preferred spring washers, Dieter preferred split-ring lock washers. Depends which end of the car they were working that day.
These cars were hand built back then.

They probably had an argument in Weissach about the ineffectiveness of both types and decided to try one type on either end and see which one they get sued for.

The parts catalog does confirm it though.
