Bow Tie AC Vent Mod. Mod
So I had this boxy Bow Tie vent mod sitting on my shelf waiting patiently for me to install it. I was not too happy with the quality as the plastic was very thin and frankly like made in China before the Capitalization of their economy. I mean it was very poorly molded and vents were not straight. Good thing, it was cheap. The worse part, I had to drill another hole thru the penlum, WTF???
Then I had too much time on my hands waiting for my parts to come in for my project and found this: https://www.mtgiparts.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=415&product_id=1201 https://www.mtgiparts.com/store/imag....5-300x300.jpg Sold here in the States, the company is a Ford and GM warehouse for OEM parts. Only $10.50, Darn reasonable I thought, No? S&H was more :-( Any who, I went to home depot to get some PVC pipes/fittings, total 3 pieces to build up the outlet to receive the vent, I still had to shave down the ID of the 1"coupler, no biggy. BTW the vent face screws off for dusting if needed, I did not know this when I bought, bonus :-) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pszrf6ddwq.jpg So around $30, I got an updated look but subtle, good quality make and feel, USA! ( probably made in China, but it is very good build quality, solid, lol ) Now for the on car Pics:' http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...ps3hzguthx.jpg Straight Back, see the PVC glue :D, yes it is permanent. I was going to just use some light silicon, but I ran out. :-P http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...pss7fdswww.jpg Closed, btw, it does push more air thru the center vents http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...psohgzttfn.jpg Aimed towards the driver side, it is infinite-directional. Tested with AC on, Wow, I can now direct the full blast of cooled ( when it works, lol, it does ) air anywhere I want, :D I highly recommend it but you will fail concours :( but you will stay cooler. Oh yeah, wifey likes it
She asked what took me so long :-( |
Very nice!
I found that when I added the vent kit from Griffiths the cooling effect from the AC was increased by x 1000. |
What's A/C?

Oh great, drove us to dinner and I used the AC, now "baby, too cold" LOL.
So I directed it just to me, wow, I got cooler quick  |
Great idea! This mod probably could be adapted to the early dealer mounted systems as well.
Thanks for sharing |
I think so, though I really did not want to drill an extra hole, I may pull the trigger and widen the current hole ( the rubber grommet is about the same diameter as the mod ID so no metal cutting of the fire wall needed ) and stick in a wider PVC. I was told on many occasions that our system bottle necks at the penlum and a wider hole will allow better flow especially out this port area.
Well, will try it this way for now, since I am a lazy fart. It is amazing how air directed to the lower region really helps you cool down :D Like the Toyota crotch vents. LOL. |

But heck, it is all about improving cooling people in the car, right? :D |
Nevermind, it looks like Chevy thought of it first :D
