Should a muffler from a 77 fit an 89 3.2?

I am looking at a 77S muffler, to take temporary residence where my M&K currently sits. 89 3.4, SSIs into the M&K.

My thinking is that they're universal from 74-89, as M&K says. But I can't pull my muffler to check distance and I'd hate to buy and ship a muffler only to find out otherwise.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

weren't 77 911s 1 in? Believe the 2 in ssi was based on the 1974 and earlier headers (which feed to the muffler via two inlets. So, unless the 77s was converted to SSIs (or '74 or earlier factory headers), I don't believe it will work

This is definitely a 2-in, 1-out.

The it will fit if you modify it slightly. The 3.2 engine mount is bigger than on the 2.7 so you will have to make the center indentation in the muffler bigger.
You can do that with a big hammer, done it two times myself.

That, and the 77's muffler hanger straps won't work. You can modify the 89 hanger strap instead.

It doesn't?
I think mine did.

Edit: I think I used the 77 muffler bracket as well.

As I understand it, the only real difference was the exit angle of the tailpipe. My brother bought a muffler for an older car (2 in 1 out) and I don't recall the year but he had to cut the tailpipe and have it re-welded in the proper angle. That should be worst case scenario for you.

Thats true, the tailpipe from a longhood muffler wont tuck under the impact bumper.
