How to remove glove box, door lock cylinders without key?
 
So I'm trying to get everything ready for the plater and I can't get the lock cylinders out. My car is a '68. I don't have a key and that's another reason I'm trying to get them out.

Puma,

Look underneath the glove box compartment and locate the metal strap that holds the glove box in place. Loosen the metal screw on the metal strap to remove the cardboard box. After you have pulled the cardboard box, you will have access to the door lock mechanism and pry it to unlock. The rest would be easy.

I don't mean "how to get the glove box out of the car", I have just the lid sitting on the bench out of the car. I mean the actual lock cylinder out of the door. There's a nut and I've turned it as far as it can go. The part that swings up when you lock the glovebox is in the way of the nut turning any further and doesn't appear to pry off. I'm totally perplexed and I'm thinking there's some special tool that removes the lock cylinder or I'm just missing something completely. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1469846251.jpg

Whoa, very different from 3.2s. Okay, there should be some sort of pin to lock the lever/locking arm in place. Can you take closer brighter pics?

I discovered recently on mine there was a little pin that need to be driven out so I can re-position the spring.

If you are trying to open the glove box door, use a dental pick to slip the latch.....or a credit card.

Old Skool Lock Smith could remove it and make you key while he is at it, just a thought.

Tony, I appreciate your response, I didn't mean to sound harsh.

Draco, I'm at the science museum with the young bucks but I'll take a close up when I get home tonight. On another forum someone advised me to turn the four point nut on the top to remove it. I'm going to have to cut a piece of steel in that shape unless I want to mangle it with locking pliers.

Okey dokey, I get the doofus award for the day. I put locking pliers to the top "thingy" that in no way looks like a nut and unscrewed it. The entire assembly came off easily. To my credit, the thing really looks like some special four way screwdriver is required to get it off. Anyway, someday someone else will be perplexed by this and they'll find this thread and it'll save some headache.

For future reference taking the cylinder out will not make the tumblers fall out.
