hi everyone,
my dashboard has several cracks in it and i'm looking into purchasing the dashboard coverlay that pelican is selling instead of buying an entire dash...have any of you purchased this? What are your opinions? Any pictures? Also, I have a 1981SC with AC - would I need the one with the speaker cutout or not? Thanks! -Broseed

I'm not familiar with the Pelican product, but I have recently installed a dash cap from the folks at DashTops. Good product, matched the blue interior in my '86 911, was easy to install and looks great. You can order online at the following adress:

I bought one for my race car and decided not to install it. I had the dash re-upholstered for $150 which looked 10x better in my opinion. If I didn't already have my front windshield out I might have used the plastic dash cover, but I doubt it. It is plastic and looks it. I'm sorry if other people like them, I'm just giving my opinion and I'm a bit of a stickler for correct looks, although not enough of one to spend $800 on a new factory dash

Did it on mine, also an 81- Looks good, better than the leather lifting and coming apart. I had to trim most of the leather off with a boxknife, left about 1/2" around the defroster and vents, and put it on. Felt awful butchering up the dash but it turned out good.
One thing, remember to get a good amount of silicone esp. at the corners and edges nearest the windshield. Mine rattled at highway speeds until I got it right. Use phone books and weights to hold it down until the silicone takes a set. In my pics it's installed. Unless you really know the cars, you won't notice, rjp

Lot of the local auto parts stores like Kragen and Shuck's will order a nicely cut carpet cover.....custom colors and they can be taken off for events.....just protects the nice or covers the not so nice dash underneath....$30-40 bucks if I remember.

I have one on my 944. Follow the directions religiously (have all your weights ahead of time), and it will look great. Unless I point it out, you can't tell it's not original.
