Idle issue when warm?
My car has recently developed an issue. It appears to start easily and idle ok when cold. I leave it running, and once warm it will not idle reliably and keeps cutting out/stalling. Its the same when driving, I have to keep revving it to keep it from stalling. It will idle for a short while and then just die.
Any thoughts? Much appreciated. |
All the usual, fuel filter, vacuum leaks, injectors, etc....

+1, vacuum leak or fuel starvation, how does she idle when oil cap is removed and when was the last time fuel filter was changed?
|
Mmmm, thanks for the ideas, it has been a few years since the fuel filter was changed - the car only covers 1,000 miles a year though..

Check the cylinder head temperature sensor, mine was sort of OK cold and went dead at temperature. Easy to do, all you need is a digital multimeter. Check this thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/923706-3-2-stalls-when-gets-warm.html

Also a bottle of Techron from Autozone or Pepboys may do the trick. That is the first thing I would do. Even though you don't drive the car much that could be the problem Techron worked for me!

Just an update. The running issues continued until the car refused to start at all. After a lot of head scratching my mechanic found that the readings on the MAF sensor unit were not as they should be. He took the plastic top off and sure enough the tracks were burnt out. He simply moved the trigger part to a new section of track and put it back together. I am happy to say it runs like a champ now.
