is 2.4 oil cooler same as 3.0?

The engine mounted oil cooler on my 3.0 is leaking from the fins. I have it on good authority that this is not a repairable problem.

So I went aheada and found a used oil cooler from a 2.4 Litre engine. It supposedly doesn't leak, and the price is right BUT...will it fit on my 3.0, and I guess more importantly, will it function as well as the stock unit.

Are the part numbers the same? - anyone?

I believe the same engine mounted oil cooler was used '72 to '89. Make sure it's actually a cooler leak; there are sources of oil above the cooler that can leak down through it. Check breather housing gasket, hose from oil tank to breather housing, drain from bottom of air box and the oil cooler seals themselves. Make sure the used cooler is not from a failed engine (may contain metal fragments to be released later); have it cleaned and pressure tested before installation. Cheers, Jim

THanks Jim - I've confirmed the oil leak is not coming down from above...and the seller says his 2.4 is running ok. I will have it cleaned and tested though.
