heater blower delete in 3.2
 

Hmm, I have seen pics of engine compartments that have had the heater blower deleted and love the look. I never really looked at my engine compartment to see what might be involved until now. (the list of necessary parts looked pretty big) Well when I looked it looks like it should be pretty simple in my car since the intake side of the fan and the outlet are very close together with only the distributer in between them. Forgive the crude painting, but is there a reason it couldn't/shouldn't be this easy,

Obviously the plan would be to have it look as integral and porsche-like as possible, but shouldn't a bypass that performs that basic function do the trick?

I did it both ways with my 3.6. First with a piece of flexible hose, and then with Thom's repro piece:

Steve - Great minds think alike! I was just sketching up the same thing last night. I was thinking about slicing off the original duct, fabricating a flat cap for it and adding a round duct on the side, the same diameter as the lower duct, then joining them with a flexible tube.

Jack - who is Thom and does he make a similar duct for the 3.2?

Looks like a good mod and I would get rid of my fan as well if a good, well made duct was out there.

Thanks, Joe, I'll check it out. A couple of issues with deleting the rear blower on 3.2 Carreras:

The system is wired such that if the rear blower is unplugged, the front footwell blowers won't work. Would require the addition of a resistor to compensate for the blower, or rewiring the system (jumping the plug terminals blows the fuse).

The Bently manual states that the rear blower also opperates as an additional cooling fan for the engine, if the engine is running, the temperature is too high and the car is stationary. I assume it's switched on by the same switch that controls the fan on the front fender oil cooler? Probably not a big deal.

I'd sure like to get all that crap out of the way!

My heater blower was deleted for the supercharger and I plan to install the bypass off the fan next week and to use a resister to trigger the footwell blowers. It my understanding that this is the way of the turbo.

I'm right up the street in Convent Station. I have a 45k mile '85 911 on which I did a complete steel flatnose conversion in the early 90s. I've been toying with forced induction for quite a while. Did you go with the SOK kit? How do you like it?

It has an older (5yr) SOK kit, (Paxton 6psi plus intercooler) and I am very happy with it.
