Christmas Fire Extinguisher

Santa brunged me a fir stingusher!

Actually it was my wife......I am not implying that she is large fat with a white beard....but she is quite jolly!

Anyway I just wanted to see where everyone else mounts these. It is an everyday driver so it must be as inconspiquous (spelling?) as possible. The rear seats are used by my two boys so back there is out of the question.

My thought was to mount it on the drivers side accross the front of the seat. I am quite short so the seat is a fair way forward. In fact it is all of the way forward so moving the seat can not hit it.

Cheers

Mark.....

Some ideas here.

The coupler cover may not be the best idea if the back seats get used, especially by kids. Probably a little tempting to play with.

"Dad, what does this do?"

Hello,

I have mine under the drivers seat. My '73 has later seats and an adapter plate was needed to allow the later seats with 16" centers fit between the original rails for the 18" center seat. The bolts holding the front of the seat trackk are a perfect palce ofr a strip of el that I use to attach the fire extingusher mount.

Goes something like this:

xxxxxxxxx <-Bottom of seat
x1______1x <-Adapter plates with el hanging down
x-Fire extinx <-original seat mounts

The el is under the two "1's" shown above.

I am 6' 2". I can tell you that in my car, '88 w/power seats, I can get my seat just far enough forward to get the clutch all of the way in if I put the extinguisher on the driver's side, but different mounts may not necessarily cause that problem. I have seen a mount for earlier non-power seats that wouldn't limit the seat travel.

Mine is up front, in the luggage compartment. If there is a fire, I am out of the car in a flash.

I figure the back end will be aflame, so I can open the front and pull it out if I choose to be a hero.

Mine is just a '10BC' unit. If it was Halon, or something nice (less toxic), it would probably be in the cabin with me.

Mark,

It is across the front. That way, I can lean down, grab the unit and get out of the car quickly. I saw the later post on putting it in the trunk. I thought about that location as well but rejected it since it requires too many moves to get to the extingusher plus my hood shocks are weak so I will get bonked in the head. The ony bad part about my location is that when I am in my harness, I cannot get to it without releasing the harness first.

The el came from a hardware store and is made of aluminium.

Glad to help!

In any event, I hope neither of us has a need to actually use the unit.

Have a happy 2003
