81 SC front Bilstein struts

GoodMorning

Time to restore my 911 after sitting in my garage for 8 years. I've dropped the
entire front suspension and my question is this

How do you remove the strut insert. I've spoke with our host on replacement
struts and they are ready to ship. Do I need to remove the roll pins? I've read
some conflicting advice here in researching past threads. Some say you put the
nut back on the strut end with a big washer and tap on it to remove the strut
from the housing.

Roll pins hold the insert's shaft in the housing. Put the smooth side of the roll pin against the shaft on installation, not the grooved side.

if you have the green bilsteins, you need to remove the roll pin with a specific punch. i think its called a pin punch, the face of the punch has a dimple that fits into the center of the roll pin. sears has the right one. and when you reinstall them what john said about the orientation of the roll pin
