Want to Add Right Side Deck Lid Shock - But no Bracket!!
 

In anticipation of adding a Carrera tail to my 88, I want to add a second deck lid shock on the right side. However, there is no bracket on the right side hinge like there is on the left. Pictured first is the left side...

On the right side, there is a hole drilled in the hinge that appears to be there for this purpose. See photo...

However, while the distance from pin to pin on the left shock is only 10", the distance from hole to hole on the right side is 13.5". Ironically, I measured for grins and the pin to pin distance on the front hood shocks is exactly 13.5". Coincidence? I'm thinking of buying a front hood shock and using it as the back right deck lid shock. Does anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work?

You need a 930 Turbo Lid Hinge or weld the triangular piece on.

Use a front hood shock, it will fit. Use 10mm nuts & bolts ( I think), to secure it. It will limit the space to remove the intake cover though.
I did this when the dual shocks were misaligning the left part of the deck lid. I took one out & used an old front shock on the right side. It doesn't open as high but that could be caused by the old shock.

The hole in right bracket is for an Adel clamp to secure the AC hose from the compressor. I use dual left shocks on my lid which has the large Turbo tea tray spoiler
and have no misalignment on my lid.

Thank you. It would seem then that I am missing that clamp. I'll need to look into that.

Consider going with a mechanical hood strut? works great, extremely well made - check out 356racing.com website - no affiliation just really like this solution

You can use just 1 strut, but it will not stay open, always. (broom stick)
Or, you can add a 2nd strut to the driver's side. This makes the deck lid protrude a little.
Or, you can deal with the passenger hinge as stated above.

Mechanical hood strut has a downside when the car is in others' hands. Totally non-stock mod.
I had someone break mine off at a track inspection.
Potential disaster since he bent the hinges trying to slam it shut, while locked.

Or, you could replace the pins with bolts and double up on the shocks on the left hand side. I did that and haven't had an issue...

I have the part that welds to the rear firewall pm me and its yours.

Actually, though, my car has the bracket welded to the firewall, what I'm missing is the bracket on the hinge. Per Draco's advice, I've located a cheap used hinge on ebay from a turbo like the one he pictured and have it coming my way, so hopefully I'm set. I'm going to go that route to start, and if that doesn't work I'll look into some of the other more non-traditional routes. Thanks all.

I use a stick. Or any other narrow, roughly 2.5' long object.
