Undercoating with U-POL?

I'm about to order the U-POL to undercoat the bottom and inner fenders of my '72. My goal is to make it appear original and hope to be able to blend in areas that need it with areas that don't need it. So, will 1 liter do most of the underside of a 911? And, it sounds like I need white and tint to match original color. Difficult to match? And the gray is a match for the gas tank?
Thanks for any input.
Bob

You can buy black and white. Just mix to taste.

Get a liter of white and black to start.

You have the spiffy gun, right? It is WAY easy to apply.

I am sensing two bottles of the white and one black. Don't know your color. Screw the tint. Just get the shade to match with black and white. If they have gray, use that. You may be overworking it. The product is robust. Spray it and don't poke it for a day.

One bottle probably won't do it. It is not brutally expensive.

I just did this, 3-4 bottles for bottom/wheel wells/engine bay. There is no way to match it to the factory color without tinting it. I tried several combos of white/grey/black and came close on the shade but not the color. The gas tank has some blue tone in it, which you can match by adding some blue. One other thing - The Upol haas a very flat finish so if you aren't painting over it, you may want to consider a semi-gloss clear on top.. There are a few threads in the paint & bodywork forumn.

Yes, I just order the spray gun yesterday. I was holding off till I knew I would commit to products and colors. So, I may be getting two whites and one black and go from there. Engine bay is good so wont be spraying in there. I have a "Finishmasters" near my house so will check to see if they carry it (which research shows they do) today. Might be kinda fun mixing to match. We'll see.
Thanks for the responses.

Bob please let us know what you find out about Finishmasters. We have one here and I'm about to pull the trigger about U-POL.

Hey PJ, I just got home from Finishmasters. They carried U-POL products but did not have the chip guard I was looking for. But the Salesman said that each store may carry a slightly different inventory of U-POL products. They did have the Raptor bed liner and a few rattle can coatings. So, I will order from ebay which has the most choices and best prices. Hope this helps....

I have used u-pol and is ok for some applications but if you want to match to the org finish,i suggest you look at wurth products called sks.You can get it in waterbace,or solvent with a hardener you also will be able to paint over it..Kevin

I just ordered two bottles of U-POL gray from amazon. Thanks jpnovak, it was about $1. cheaper there. I had trouble finding the wurth then people said the u-pol was a match and could be tinted. so.....
I thought the underside had a lot of beige in it but here are two pix, one of the underside and one of the gas tank. So, gray with maybe a touch of tint will be easy.

...and the tank

They (Upol) make the product in ready to use spray cans now. It works great and comes with 2 different tips to vary the texture, easy way to go if your just blowing in some repair spots

UPOL works damned well in the liter sized, non aerosol, manly containers. (I have no friends, but it's the price I pay for being awesome.)

Kevin:

Wurth sks will not match any better than UPOL Gravitex as to texture. How can you know the difference?

I have sprayed both and I damned well know. Have a nice evening. Again, no friends. Just Ronnie. He does not count.

Also, OP (superbob), no paint blending. Not even a thought. Paint over it. Gas tank not included.

Over on the Paint & Bodywork Discussion Forum 962porsche says that UPOL makes the Wurth product for them.

you want to use chip guard .
U-pol is who makes it for wurth . u-pol offers it in white , gray and black it can be tinted to match your cars color / shade .
you would tint it with acrylic enamel .

Nice.

962 is the boss.

Would be nice to know the history. I used the Wurth in maybe 2002 for the front valance. Then on repaint in 2003-06 used UPOL for fender and inner fender spray.

Seemed the same.

Thanks.

Here we go: Got my U-POL on the front porch the other day and getting ready to spray. Questions: Do I need to mask "everything"? I watched a video on spraying a similar product and it seems like there is no spray mist in the air. Just kinda splatters on. I was going to practice on something with distance (close or far from the piece). what would be a good starting point? (so I don't waste a bunch practicing).
And thanks Bob, I will spray over everything since it would make sense to make all color to match.
Thanks for all input,
Superbob
