911 Market Update: 1989-98
I picked up a copy of the February 2003 Excellence today. This issue has BA's market update of 1989-98 911s. Even the normally bullish BA seemed to agree with the sentiments expressed on this board regarding 993 pricing. His article starts with, "Prices for late-model 911s, specifically 993-based cars, appear to have dropped significantly since last year"
I did some quick calculations and it looks like his values for Excellent cars from this period dropped around 12-15%. |

Never trust his Market reports
I have a bone to pick with BA. I will never trust Excellence or BA market reports again.
I bought a 1995 Speed Yellow 993 back in 1998. It had the M030, 6-spd, limited slip, factory race seats, Hi-FI, ABD, leather, 17 inch polished wheels 23k miles. I purchased it for $50k. I sent him a "readers report" on my new purchase with all of the above info in October 1998. Then while looking in Excellence in the October, Nov, or Dec. OF 2000 edition there was my reader report! (can't remember the exact month but will post it when shuffle through them again) I will never take those market reports from him seriously. It had been 2 years since I sent it to him. Then he publishes it saying thats what I bought it for then. What a joke. I sent a letter to the editor of Excellence and never recieved a reply. This was a one of a kind car. All the details were exactly the same and in the same order when I sent it to him. Again, the market reports are a joke.

I have to agree with Plavan. They're are a lot of variables that come into play when purchasing a 911 and the market reports have little value. In addition, if the reader reports aren't printed in a timely matter, they're of NO value. Porsche prices fluctuate (especially the newer models) quite a bit with the economy.
Personally, I don't think Bruce Anderson does the research needed for this section of the magazine.

If you want a better judge on market value, there is a publication out there called PML (Porsche Market Letter)? I have no affiliation. I think they also have a website. This is up to date information, not two years behind.

Just do your own research on the websites and it will probably give you a much better indication of what Market is. Right click on most of the ads will tell you when they were placed and how long they have "sat"

If that is the case I have actually made money by spending money on my SC. Ya see, if I would have purchased the 993 for $41k I was looking at this time last year, it would have depriciated to $31K. A loss of about $10K. Instead I put about $6K into my SC which has actually increased in value or depreciated less than the 993. Thereby saving $4-5K.
