i own one. i found one with extremely low miles (1600). i mainly show it at concourse events. it is a fun car to drive. at some point, i plan to drive it more often, but i wanted to keep my driving to a minimum for a few years after my purchase.
the cost of this model totally depends on how many miles the car has. i have found that many folks purchased them and rarely drove them. i believe that it was assumed they would "skyrocket" in value, and low mileage examples would yield profits for the owner when resold. this, of course, has not happened. BUT, you can still find pristine examples of this car for sale. for more info, email me directly at tmctguer@home.com. if you are located in SoCal, i would be happy to show you my car. |

In my opinion, the Speedster is an AWESOME car. They are the ULTIMATE! Way, Way out there as far as being stared at!!!!
As stated in the reply above, they are rarely driven. One was for sale, owned by a Dr. in Santa Barbara, California. I think it was listed for high 30's with low miles. Boy, did I want to buy it! Unfortunately, like you, I cannot give you feedback with regard to owning one. I'll be watching your thread as I currently know of one with a Strosek package, 89 year, and fast-yellow in color! |

The average price in So Cal is around $50,000.
Most have very low miles. If you find one with 50,000 mi. then the price drops about 10,000 |

Weren't you after a tiptronic? If so, did the speedster come with one?
I assume you mean the 964 shape speedster? The Carrera one certainly wouldn't have a tip. Either way, quite cool, somewhat rare and check the headroom, 'cause the pictures I have seen look like their isn't much with the top up! Cam ------------------ Cameron Baudinet 1975 911S (in bits) 1969 911T |

The speedster is always going to be rare and, unfortunatly, most likely a garage queen seldom used car. Other then the steeply raked window and the lowered cab top, they are no different then any 3.2 cab. If you buy one, you will feel compelled not to drive it because of the depreciation that will be done with every mile. Is that any way to own a 911?

At last a topic that I can help on!
I purchased my 89 Speedster just over a year ago and absolutely love it. It was purchased from new by a museum based in Birmingham, England and hence never used. The following two owners put just over 7,000 miles on the clock, and I have recently gone past 10,000 miles. I was initially aprehensive about purchasing such a low mileage car as I have heard many stories of engines problems due to under use, however the car has performed faultlesly in all conditions including a rain soaked trip to Le Mans. 89911 is right in stating that the car is based heavily on the 3.2 Carrera, however those parts that are unique are very expensive to replace eg. windscreen £3,000.00, speedster humps £1,500.00, so make sure that any such parts are thoroughly checked prior to purchase. You should be aware that the top does leak when raised under inclement conditions but it is not as bad as it is made out to be. Only in very heavy rain is there any water ingress. CamB advised you to be carefull of headroom. I am over 6ft and fit very easily as Porsche took this potential problem into account and lowered the seats accordingly. Most of the models produced had the turbo body style, though a limited number were manufactured in narrow body. If you can find one of these then you have a very rare beast indeed, however in the UK there in no price differential between the two models. In the UK prices range from £30,000 to £45,000 I have ammassed a large amount of info on these cars and would be happy to send copies of useful articles to you. If you have any further questions please feel free to e.mail me. chrisd@vinalith.co.uk. Hey, if you buy a Speedster that will make at least 3 owners on the Pelican board. Watch out Leland, Speedster World domination is afoot. hehehehehe. Bring on the sunshine. |

the main thing that freaks me out is getting a rock chip in my $3200 windshield. you can't follow gravel trucks and a lot of other dirt spewing vehicles too close.
