I Just Bought a Complete MFI System for a
 
'73T. My car currently has CIS and there's no place to go with it in terms of increased power. I'm thinking of having the MFI pump rebuilt to E specs, having the cams reground to E specs, and having the heads ported. I'm also considering going to 2.2 high compression pistons but don't have any idea how well they would work in this setup, or whether they would work at all. I'd appreciate any and all thoughts and comments. Thanks very much.

T pistons won't take E cams. the heads need to be machined to accept MFI injectors. the T throttle housings are small compared to an E. maybe just keep it T/MFI. new fuel pump required, too, and wiring and relays. you really gotta want it.

One small detail in addition to porting your heads ... they will need machining for MFI injectors.

Why not go all the way to an RS 2.7 engine if you are going to go to the expense of rebuilding the injection pump? I'm sure there is little difference in cost between rebuilding to 2.4E vs RS 2.7 specs! And the power peak of an RS engine is only 100 rpm higher than the 2.4E engine! With considerably more torque all the way from 2500 rpm thru 7300 rpm! Also, the RS 2.7 pistons and cylinders are quite plentiful, and reasonably priced!

Yikes. I have a 69T with E cams (from the PO). One can only assume any required work was done (10 years ago!) or that the 2 litre cars are different (or the invoice is bogus).

It isn't very fast, so it could have anything in there...

Also, you can't regrind your CIS cams to E specs. You need MFI cams which have the pump drive off of the left camshaft.

Warren - I hadn't considered the RS2.7, but the more I think about it, the better I like it. Thanks!!
John - Would I be correct that, if I were to build it to RS2.7 specs, your comments regarding the fuel pump, relays, and wiring would still apply?
Warren/John - If I were to go with the RS2.7, would I be correct in assuming that I would also need Timeserts and, say, Raceware head studs? Also, would I then be into that area where an external oil cooler would be advisable? Thanks again for the help. Greg.

yes, same wiring. any 2.7 needs extensive case machining at rebuild time. timeserts for sure. steel studs work fine. raceware is kind of overkill on a smaller engine unless it's really built to be wild.
