82 SC won't run, after new fuel pump

Give you a little background, a while back, my 82SC would not start. Turns out that fuel pump relay was burned, as a significant portion of the wiring harness. June forward, wiring harness replaces, new fuse block, centre portion, and new relay. Car starts, runs fine, wires begin to smoke again. Car is shut down. Mechanic tests the fuel pump. Drawing way to many amps, hence heating up the wires and pulling to much and shorting it out. New fuel pump installed, and now car won't run. Wants to start, but won't actually run. All power is good, but it appears somewhere some how the new pump is grounding out and shutting down. Any ideas what would cause this? Keeping in mind it was running fine with the old pump.

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks,

Wires are burned and melted together. Is the new pump running?

Yeah this is a serious electrical issue. You should start with the basics, trace all wires. Some newer pumps draw more and require heavier gauge wires. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby! Get an electrical guru (they can be identified by their $500 dollar volt meter ;-) )

Jason,

Search DKLever48's thread about FP relay tests. Everything you need to know was widely discussed in the thread. If you need further assistance, simply ask. Keep us posted.

So an update, as mentioned my mechanic has the car at his shop. The short has been located. There is a short in the Lambada. I recall I had an issue with that before, but at least now we have it located. Fingers crossed, its something minor.

Thank you for everyones input.
