Best comprehensive manual for a 77 911?

Hey guys -
Just picked up a project car and have already received some great advice on this forum - THANKS!

What is the best comprehensive manual, shop manual, etc... for my car? I have a 77 911 s w/ a 3.0 liter from a 79 sc. Bentley? Porsche Shop manual?
I will likely only be doing minor mechanical work (electrical, brake pads, spark plugs, oil change, etc...) Don't need a book to tell me how to rebuild the engine - cause thats not gonna happen. Or at least I am not gonna do it!

Thanks as always for any advice.
Shane

I would get every book you can, if you are serious about doing all your own work.

Do you have the owners manual? Lots of good info there.

Bentley is your best bet for overall basic maintenance. The factory workshop manual is probably overkill, unless you want the ultimate in detailed information. You would need something like six volumes to get it all anyway.

Wayne's 101 projects is a must have, IMO. If you plan on getting into the motor, even if you hand it off to someone else, his How to Rebuild 911 motors book is very good.

Bruce Anderson's 911 Performance Handbook is worth having, if only for the reading.

I can't find a pre 78 Bentley Manual. Does one exist? Personally I use Wayne's 101 book an a Hanyes 911 service manual that ends with my model year.

Thanks Trackrash - I think I'll start with Bentley and search for an owners manual. I have nothing now so those would be a good start. Does the 101 Projects book have more info that the Pelican site? Seems like most of those articles are on line.

Lots of guys on here aren't big on the Haynes manual, but I have done a ton of work on my 77 using the information in it.

Price is very reasonable, so I would say pick one up, but use it more as a guide to get you going in the right direction rather than a bible. Read the section and then take on the repair, but verify what you are doing with what makes sense once you have grease on your hands.

The factory shop manuals are the best if you can find them and afford them

I have a Haynes. It is really good. I didn't know if they were still available. I bought mine in '1979.
Sometimes those old manuals show up on ebay.

There is no Bentley for a 77. Your best choices are the Haynes and Factory Manuals.

Get the Bentley for the 78 (very similar) and the Haynes.

Every project you do, read BOTH manuals.

Should be fine.

...and install an 11 bladed fan and get rid of the thermal reactors if you have them.

Bentley is probably the best. This one has a lot of information specific to mid year cars:

^ I have the same combination, a '77 with a '79 3.0L motor. I bought a few books and just look through all of them about a particular task.

I wish I could find a copy of the '77 owners manual, saw a couple of originals on eBay for crazy money ($600 and up!).
