Holiday (short term) Projects

I know some of you guys actually pull your 911's off the street for the winter for some "real" projects.

I am off for the next two weeks, and am always looking for inspiration for some Pcar improvements (of course, after I complete the family induced home improvement projects).

Tune up is already on the list, perhaps a short roadtrip up north to the Wheel Enhancement folks for some aluminum consultation and acquisition.

What are some good short term projects you guys are working on?

Well I just bought my car a couple of weeks ago and a couple of little things are nagging me. Over the next two weeks I plan to...
1) Replace the bushings under the shift lever.(just did the coupler)
2) Replacing both horn grills and seals.(one is cracked)
3) Replacing the engine lid release T handle.(grabbing it w/ pliers just aint cool)
4) See if I can get the heat to work.

Ah yes winter projects.....I am suppose to be building the basement, but I've been "tinkering" with my 911.

Took apart/off the alternator (Beeatch to get out) refurbishing it.
While out, polish fan, powder coat, clean fan housing, powder coat.
Replace spark plug cables (shiny new red ones, present to myself)
Change plugs, dist cap, rotor.
Paint headlight interior plastic ring body color.

Clean engine look for leaks and drink beer.

Cheers

Can't get too deep in a week and a half, but I do plan to

1) install the hardware for the 5 point harness,
2) Install the new BK Fire Extinguisher mount
3) If it turns out santa can take a hint, I'll be installing a fender mounted oil cooler

4)Fixing my windshield wipers

During the holidays I'm working on the 73E. My projects are
- Shifter and shift coupler bushings
- Front hood shocks
- Interior color change (already started)
- Get H4 trim rings chromed and install H4's

That's a lot on my to do list. We'll see how much I actually get done.

I'll also try to get out for a drive in the countryside every now and then, as weather permits.

oil change and replace tail light lens seals. The in-laws get in town Sunday, so I suspect I might have to...ummm....fix some other stuff...and then test drive it. Yeah, that's it. Test drive. Just a few hundred miles.

Pull the engine and tear it down.

See what I find, and start planning from there.

Holiday projects

My projects were to get my new ducktail on and start getting car ready for a complete paint job, flush brakes and remove old valance and install new valance with spoiler. OT- Just got bad news a few days ago and I'm up here in Sacramento area for my my Dads opperation, all went well with the opperation and they removed a section of his colon as he had a milignant tumor. Nice to be up hear with family and to still visit this site and keep a positive attitude with life in general " live each day as your last".
I'll be home for Xmas and back to my family and working on the P-car, wish you all good health and have a happy and safe holidays.

Cheers, Rick

OK, Now I am getting motivated--building a list. But here is one that I have yet to see on the board:

Windshield. Mine is the original. It has dings, scratches, swirls (real obvious when driving west into the lovely California sun). Is there any way to get rid of this stuff so it will somewhat resemble a clear piece of glass?

Mine looks like it's been through a sandstorm (which it has). With all the pebble/gravel "landscaping" around here, eventually I'll get a crack in it; then my insurance will pay to have it replaced with OEM glass. Until then, I'm going to have to squint. Someone mentioned some time ago to try polishing with fresh newsprint. Haven't tried it, but can't see how it could hurt.

Just realized that my project list is missing:

Find and eliminate vac leaks (or, replace all vac lines!)
Replace struts
Alignment

Sigh. At least I got the Honda 3/4 running today! (yes, running on 3 cylinders....time to tear down the #2 carb....again.....)

I'm planning on a little road trip (3000-3500 miles) (thanx Ron) middle of Jan so I recently did oil/filter/air cleaner, changed plugs/wires(magnacor) rotor/cap, valves, bled brakes, rotors and pads fine though I had planned to change them. Put on new speaker grills and a 930s wheel. Siliconed the gold creast on the wheel (looks great). Will lube the normal stuff, doors cables etc. shortly. Am now installing a CB/antenna for trip insurance. Hopefully I will be installing a V1 next week (If SC shows up as planned). Also putting together a trip kit (spares/tools).

My list will keep me busy this winter. Some I've completed already and others are waiting to start.
1- replace old leaky fuel lines to fuel pump.
2- replace trombone oil cooler with Carrera type.
3- replace permatune with MSD along with coil
4- replace front bushings with Chuck's bronze bushings
5- install relays for H4's and starter
6- replace cam oil line fittings
7- install new motor and tranny mounts
Other than that it will be a quiet winter.

Stone,
Bluesky,
Try Bonami scouring cleanser, you can find it at most grocerey stores. I did my windshield that had wiper scratches, road blasting and it came out 100% better than it was. my .02

OK, I'm back to work tomorrow so I thought I'd take stock of my holiday projects' progress:
- Shifter and shift coupler bushings replaced. Adjustment of shift coupler not tested due to dead batteries and now, uncooperative weather.
- Front hood shocks replaced
- Interior color changed to black. I still need to replace the brown carpeting with charcoal carpeting. I'm indecisive about the type of carpet to put in but hopefully I'll get over that shortly.
- One of the local (NoVA) Pelicanheads is buying H4's with chrome trim rings and we'll trade trim rings. He wants to have trim rings painted to match his body color.
- Unplanned removal of crappy old batteries. I'll clean up the battery boxes and try to buy one of those dry cell batteries (e.g. Stinger SP800)
- Replaced gas cap and filler flap.
- Rewired stereo so it uses PO-installed Blaupunkt front speakers. PO only had stereo connected to the dash-top speaker...yuk!

I wish I had more time as I was really having fun with these projects.
