Bonneville bound with Tom Woodford

Tom Woodford is taking his 911 to Bonneville to try to set class record & to go 200+ MPH. I am happy to be a part of his "crew". Never been to Bonneville, went to LeMans in 1972 & Indy in 1975 so I consider this to be the fulfillment of my "Triple Crown" of speed events.

All ready to go; car has Nevada license plate!

3.0 turbo, his run class is "production car with motor swap"

Tom on the salt in 2104 when event was stopped due to poor salt conditions. 2015 was cancelled also. Third time is the charm we hope!

What an adventure Bonneville Speed Week is an event on my bucket list I need to experience one day

I missed out on my chance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSaBxzpI3Q8

Enjoy yours and take time to stop and look around, too easy to be so focused you miss what is going on around you.

Wow. That's a wild looking plumbing job, What kind of induction is that? Your handiwork, Paul? Good luck on the trip and all the success your way.

All work is Tom's except for the throttle bodies which I did. He was going to run a carb'd engine first but decided "What the heck!" and converted to turbo.

I was on the salt flats this week and the conditions are pretty good. SCTA has set up their courses.

Hopefully we get no rain there in the near future.

Good luck.

My TT was the first ever on the flats back in 2001 AFAIK. An absolute blast!! Tried for the 130 club where you get a standing mile to hit 130. Got close

And, he will get a Red Hat if he goes sets a record in his class over 200 mph. Friends of mine have one for going over 200 in their '32 Ford flathead V8. I believe since 1949, when the club was started, there have been about 500 Red Hats awarded.

Tom Woodford sold me a 914 with a switched VIN when he was in New Jersey. It was his shop that did the vin switch. I was only 17 so he got that one over on me.

Why did he do the switch? What was the purpose?

Cool. Should be great. I have a friend who photographs there. His name is Larry and he drives a Chevy astro van. If you find him he will shoot the run. He does nice work. He's been in Hot Rod and a few other publications.

Good luck guys! I'm not going this year but here's a shot of Tom in 2014 when they were running the car for the first time. RW is trying to sneak into the photo too!

Desperation. He was known for doing a lot of shady things back then.

Made one run, AFR was showing lean, 17 to 18 so aborted.

Engine needs dyno before trying next year. Mark Jung @ MFI Werks rebuilt the MFI pump & made "best guess" for space cam but dyno tuning is obviously required. Engine is not typical in that it is twin plugged using MFI throttle bodies and MFI pump with large turbo. Too many variables.

Otherwise all good, went through tech fine & all other systems worked well.

Picture is at beginning of run:

I still have the car and all the paperwork - with his name on the sale. I didn't know about the vin switch until I pulled it out of the garage for a restoration at a real shop. '70 or 71 chassis with a '74 vin. Bondo smeared over rusted out panels and then painted. Parts of panels pieced together, not in a good or safe way, just to keep from having to buy a replacement part. All done under Tom Woodfords eyes. Like I said, he was known for it back then, I just didn't know. He might be Wayne's friend but to me, he's bottom feeding scum.
