I think the trick here is not to break any, easier said then done.I replaced the exhaust on a 1974-911S that I owned a couple of years ago and everything was rusted,I sprayed each of the nuts 2 times a day for a week with PB Blaster, then I started removing them slowly, tapping them with a hammer to loosen them up,this worked for about half of them, the other half I heated with my oxy/acetelyne torch and they all came off without breaking.I then cleaned each one up with a wire brush and coated each stud with anti-seize compound, works like a champ. If you break them off, depending where they break, you may have to drill them out, heat them and grab with vise-grips etc.Good luck.

Try not to break them in the first place......lot's of penetrating oil....NOT WD-40, use Kryoil or Liquid Wrench....let is soak, then turn a bit, tighten and soak again.....
If they do not break loose you will need some heat. Do a search, there are many threads on the subject. Do not let them break, they will be a real pain. Once you get the heat exchangers off, you can double nut them and replace them. |

I fully agree with both replies. When I put my headers on, I sprayed a penetrating fluid onto the studs for about a week before hand and undid themvery gently - not one broke!

I would also clean up the threads on the exposed studs after the removal of the h.e., before the reinstall (it's a metric pitch, of course, so if you don't have the proper die, be careful at the hardware store to make sure you've got the right one!)
Good luck

Use oxygen/acetylene torches and heat the nuts until they are cherry red, then remove them while they are still glowing. That is the best insurance against breaking a stud.
