Mono shift knob
EDIT: Seriously, MOMO!
I'm looking to replace my worn oem shift knob on my '87 Carrera to keep it in decent shape. Has anyone switched to this Momo offered by our host? Maybe something similar? Thanks! I have no experience with that particular one but I once put another Momo in place of the stock shifter knob on my Miata. I was unimpressed -- it had rubber sleeve inside to connect it to shifter that was too soft so the knob itself had play in it - no matter how well I snugged in the side screw to keep it tight - YMMV

Alternate Shift knob
I was also looking for a replacement to the stock knob on my '87.
While surfing, I found Dorman HELP! 76933 Gear Shift Knob and Bushing on Amazon but it may also be found in the “Help!” section of your local auto store. At <$10, it is hard to go wrong. The knob has a two-step hole in it and several threaded insert/ adapters. However, the G50 shift knob is attached by an M8x1.25 allen-head screw which fit none of the included adapters. The knob will need to be modified to receive an M8x1.25 all-thread stud and slip over the ~0.5in shift lever.

Sorry for the late response. I totally forgot to check back on this thread. Pics as promised. A couple installed and one showing the stud threaded into the ball from the back.

I picked up this red 8-ball shift knob from an online hotrod shop. Pato911 is right - just get the right adapter and threaded rod (or cut the head off a bolt).
