Question Vinyl

Dear Friends,

I wonder where can I find a good quality vinyl to cover the dash panel and the A ans B pillar on a ´76 coupe

Also is there to much difference in the German and the Domestic material? Also does any one had any experience with a Marine grade material such as Nautolex?

Thanks

Ricardo

I bought german vinyl from world upholstery and the guy that did my interior tells me that the quality of the material was way better than the vinyl the he uses which I guess is the domestic or imported from China, so yes there is a big difference on the german material. I have used the marine grade for patio furniture and boats, but I think that the grain texture is not correct for the interior of a 911, but if that does not bother you, it is also good lasting material.

I just used marine grade on my parcel shelf. The stuff world upholstery had was no close enough to the original blue, which I could not match but came close to. I had to search get multiple samples before I found something with a low enough grain to look even close to the original. Quality seemed comparable to the original and compared to World Upholstery sample.

I was looking at world upholstery web site and notice that they do not sell the raw material, just sell the kits for various parts of the car
I´m correct or did not look for the right place?

I recently did all of mine in domestic and kind of wish I had sprung for german. Id order samples or stop by a reputable shop to see and touch the materials in person.

Ricardo,
When I requested my samples I got the impression that they would sell the vinyl. I mentioned what I was doing and the color I was trying to match, and I got samples right away and in colors that were not mentioned on the website. You may just have to call to order it by the yard.

I've had several vehicle interiors done in the past with good results, but have authentic German basketweave leather in my 912E, and the difference is quite notable - it's very supple and pliable, you can feel the quality.

It's really just a matter of taste, but i could suggest The Beatles white album, or one of my favorites is the Velvet Underground and Nico with the Andy Warhol cover. Id recommend you stay with the original 1967 pressing though before they added all the stickers for legal reasons. If you are looking for something more modern and not as period specific, Id go with the newest Coldplay which is great and comes in non traditional colors. The new Radiohead is very good as well.

That's just a sampling of my vinyl preferences.

I hope that helps.
