HVAC overhall recommendations please!

86 coupe restoration. All A/C is out, and so is the fresh air blower, A/C condensor, hoses, dryer, and engine/trans. I am going to replace the entire A/C system. I have and SSI exhaust that will go onto the car. I have been reading all of the posts regarding FW blower operation, engine blower delete, etc. Since the car is dismantled, what should I test piece by piece? There is a post on how to rewire the auto heat controller, etc. This is murky territory for me, and I have no idea what worked on the car before as the car came to me not running. I dont know where to start! Any help would be appreciated.
