Question on DME sensor mod on 915 trans

I know you have to cut the bellhousing on a 915 to allow the DME sensor at the flywheel when going from a 3.0 to a 3.6. Can you use a 915 that originally came on the 3.2? In other words, are the DME sensor locations at the bellhousing identical for both the 3.2 and 3.6?

I'm thinking of picking up a rebuilt trans for the 3.6 conversion and it way save some time to just pick up a 915 that came mounted to a 3.2. Thanks.

Paul:

I seem to remember when doing my research on the 3.2 vs 3.6 that the modification to my 915 would have been the same.

Happy New Year!!

Edit: I guess I shouldn't rely on my memory. Sorry. :(

Hi

The cut out notch for the dme senser on the 915 is different for the 3.2 vs. the 3.6.

I just installed a 1986 915 box on a 3.6 engine , and you need to notch the opening slightly higher to give additional clearance for the 3.6 DME senser .. only took about 3 minutes with a wiz wheel and a file to clean it up a bit.. had to open up the notch about a extra 1/4" higher

Take care

Thanks guys. As long as I'm going with a new 915 trans it sound like I might as well start with a 84-89 915.

You will need a 84-86, as in 87 the Carrera got the G50. They can be had to find, since they were only made for those three years. Too me awhile to find mine.

The groove on the trans pictured is different than mine. If I get a chance today, I will go take a picture, as it is currently out of my car.
