Porsche Crest Rocker Arms

I was reading through Bruce Anderson's 911 Handbook the other night and noted he recommends periodically checking the tightness of the rocker arm shafts on 911 air-cooled engines.

I had never heard this before, but if BA recommends it, it must be important.

Anybody know the procedure for checking the torque on rocker arm shafts? I have my valve covers off for my annual valve adjustment, so this probably a good time to check the rocker arms.

Thanks, Bruce

Marcesq just did this job two wks. ago. Look up his report on the whole thing. I think you need a 5mm and an 8mm hex wrench for checking it and the rule is to make them as tight as you can without rounding off the bolts - don't worry - there's not enough room for you get serious leverage and torque. But the larger bolt heads are super shallow, so you may need to file down a hex key to make sure it's totally flat and flush.
