Carrera no start fixed @ fuel pump fuse

I parked my Carrera a few nights back, went to start it today and got healthy turn over, no fire. Replaced DME relay with one I kept in the glove box - same. Checked Fuel pump fuse and it LOOKED fine - but when I went to remove it for good measure, the top "cap" crumbled off. Why Porsche stuck with these absurd bullet fuses I do not know but I'm glad to have my car running again.

BTW - where do you guys buy new bullet fuses?

I bought a few bags of each amperage from our host.

Go with blade fuses

I am doing a restomod on my '80 SC and cringe every time I see all of the potential points of failure with the bullet fuses and panel. I stumbled across a website from the UK, classicretrofit.com, that sells direct replacement fuse panels that take blade fuses. It is an impressive piece of work and resolves my worry over corroded fuses and poor connections. No affiliation, just happy to find something that improves and upgrades 1970's technology with something newer. And it is easily and completely returnable to stock, if needed.

Our host sells the panel and there is at least one longer thread on the production/installation. Some people get the job done in a hour or so, some take a little longer.

Gomezoneill, You only get the fuse panel itself--you use the bracket that is already in the car. I have not installed mine yet, I still have the engine out and am going to finish it before I start on the electrics.
Here is the history of the fuse panel project: Classic Retrofit Replacement Fuse Panels - Electrics - Impact Bumpers.

400 dollars compared to 275.

I buy almost everything from Pelican but that's excessive.

That means it takes 5 hours, in real life.
