Safety Contact Switch Removal

Have an 89 930 and the safety contact switch is giving me intermittent trouble. I have disconnected it and it solved the no-start problems, but I'm not liking the cackle when I let off the throttle. I am also now getting an occasional hot start issue and thinking it may be from the fuel pumps kicking on prior to ignition.

During trouble shooting I measured the resistance while moving the sensor plate. When the plate is pushed down the contact opens and I get open on the ohm meter. When I let the plate move back up I get between 50 ohms and 1000 ohms which changes randomly with each actuation. The connector contacts are squeaky clean. I can also rotate the green switch with a firm twist and get the resistance to change. Pretty sure it is dirty under the switch.

The issue, as you can see in the pic below, is how in the heck do I remove this darned switch so I can clean it or replace it? The nut is captured in the green plastic fitting so you can't turn it or even tighten it. And I can't rotate the switch more than about 20 degrees. I've sprayed some electrical contact cleaner on it and it helped only marginally.

Thanks for any guidance!

Air flow meter switch.........

The securing bolt is inside the air flow meter housing and you could see the retaining nut embedded in the plastic connector. Short of removing the AFM from the engine, I don't know how you could remove it in situ. Maybe someone has done it before. Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply! But not the answer I was hoping for, but it looked that way. Why in the heck would they make this so unserviceable? Sheeesh. So is this stud threaded into the casting? Meaning if I chiseled off the plastic and unthreaded the nut would the stud be retained in the housing or would it fall inside? I can machine a special nut to reinstall the replacement switch. But I don't want to drop a fastener inside of the air system for obvious reasons. Nor do I want the major task of disassembling the fuel system.

Anyone have experience with this remove/replace?

Just curious about your no start problem........

Do you have a new engine wire harness by chance? If not, my earlier experience is not related to your safety switch problem. Thanks.
