Talking New to board, my new (to me) 930

Been hanging around this board a lot, having discovered it only a couple weeks back! Nice "community", am learning a lot and having fun too. Here's my story...

After years of dreaming, bought my first Porsche last spring, a 1986 Carrera Targa. I was lucky, bought with no PPI , and mechanicals were basically OK, though cosmetically rough (repainted and not well).

Anyway, was having a blast with the car until my buddy picks up this gorgeous and professionally upgraded 930. One ride in that and my mind as I knew it was blown. As I told him, "I was perfectly happy with my car until I got a ride in yours." My first shot was free, but I was nonetheless now a junkie.

Spent quite a bit more time finding the suitable "fix", and as winter came prices receded a bit so that was good for me. After a time, located and decided on a 1988 Cabriolet (ragtop the request of the wife who has allowed this to proceed )

But, did not foresee what an insidious version of torture it would be to have this beautiful machine in my garage in the midst of a New England winter! Every snowstorm made it worse, as I'd walk by the 930 on my way to fire up the snowblower!

But fear not, on New Year's Eve we had a long drenching rain that cleared the roads, and New Year's day was warm (it's all relative -- 43 degrees), so I fired up the car and off I went. 6 miles later, grinning ear to ear, I remembered why I simply had to have one of these.

Alas, it wasn't destined to last. Today I woke up to 8 inches of snow in the yard (back to the snowblower) and more in the forecast. At least I have found this board to get my Porsche fix until spring! Hello to everyone! (I'll post a pic of the new car when I figure out how to do so)

--Mike (newly addicted HP junkie)

Nice car. I don't want a ride in it though becasue I may have to buy one too. Congratulations and welcome to the best porsche website in the world. I think a springtime Pelican get together is in order for us MA-RI-CT-VT-NH-ME porsche owners.

Man that's a nice car!

Winter is just Mother Nature's way of telling you to get after all those Porsche projects you've been to busy to do while you're driving the car the rest of the year.

Bob,
You are right about winter being the time for projects, but man is it cold in my garage. And, I'd best let this purchase age a bit before I approach the wife with my discussion of why the garage needs to be heated!

Nice car and welcome.

I hear ya loud and clear on the 930 dealio...my friend has a modded 930 and I refuse to drive the thing...we call it the "Death Sled" I can barely afford my 84 Carrera and my mod habit for that...

Another guy that lives down the street from me is building a monster 930 (John Bailey)...is that thing running yet John?

Keep them both far away from me...I feel like a guppy in a shark tank

Congrats

on your nice ride!

Was just wondering what kind of roll bar that is and whether or not your back seats are useable?

Looking to find a roll bar for my ride.

Thanks!

No idea on the make of that roll bar -- PO had it covered at a custom interior shop in red vinyl so no original markings visible, if there were any. And no, back seats not usable (to the extent that they ever were) -- they have been removed.

The generosity of this board is amazing! Thanks to my new friend from VA, the car has a warm winter home! Wait a minute, what am I saying.....

Congratulations on the purchase. Hope you get some great weather so you can take some more pictures. Love the RUF wheels.

Consider yourself lucky, Ive always loved 911's from a very young age. My uncle had to 'corrupt' me as soon as he got the chance. He called my house, asking "whose car is that outside your house?". Sure enough, when I went out it was him. He gave that 83 930 everything for almost an hour while I rode shotgun.

I have driven a few 911's since- carrera 3.0, 74 2.7, and a couple of sc's. These were all awesome cars, but the rush of boost from the 930 is just too hard to forget. Lucky I was only 15 when I went for the ride and didn't drive that car! One can only imagine the feeling of riding in a 930 with more power than stock. This car was the 300Hp version. It is extremely hard for a nat. asp. 911 to compare with a 930.

Main thing is that you enjoy your car as much as you can!

Anthony.

I love it because I have the same car. Red 88 turbo cab but with champaign interior. If you think you are happy now, wait until you do a few basic madifications. Headers with a K27 will get you on boost faster and add another 65 horses or so. Then the intercooler and 1 bar spring for even more zip. I'm glad I did it and would never go back. It only gets better from here, enjoy.

Big Ed. Your Turbo Cab is freakin' gorgeous! I WANT ONE! I have a ready/willing/able buyer for my 87 non-turbo Cab. Only reason I would sell would be to get a turbo. Damn, you have me thinking....

Come to the dark side, Dennis, the weather is fine!
May I suggest that you look for the 1989 car that I was originally seeking when I found this '88? THe only thing I could ask for that my car doesn't have is the G50!
