3D printed door speaker brackets/enclosures
I’ve recently installed an amp and subwoofer underneath my front seats, and figured while I had the door cards out to R&R the door latch mechanisms and power locks, it was a good time to upgrade the door speakers as well.
I looked around for a good speaker enclosure – the ones I currently have are cracked and don’t provide any sort of water protection. I couldn’t find anything – maybe I wasn’t looking for the right thing. Anyway, we have a 3D printer at work, so I figured I’d design and print my own. After many, many iterations, this is the final product. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477492.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477537.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477597.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477645.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477707.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477734.jpg I did it in two halves due to the way that 3D printers work. If I tried to do it in one piece it would have required lots and lots of 'scaffolding' which I wasn't keen on trying to clean out. This also gave me some adjustability in depth and how the holes line up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477804.jpg |
The cutout in the blue piece is to avoid the motor for the power windows.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477943.jpg I glued the two halves together using the yellow 3M weatherstripping glue, plus some rubber tape I had lying around. I also added some foam baffling I had - I wasn't sure if the plastic would vibrate or add any sort of weird sound to the speakers (I'm definitely not any sort of audio engineer...!!) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473477983.jpg Here it is in place with the first of the screw clips in place. I had to drill some new holes to mount it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473478123.jpg This is the new speaker - a 5.25" Infinity. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473478182.jpg The end result... I'm very happy with the fit and sound! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473478248.jpg Let me know if anyone's interested in getting the STL files to print their own set - I'll see if I can figure out how to share... |
That's so rad. Well done!

I don't have access to a 3D printer, but I would buy a set from you if you printed them up. I have been wanting to add a stereo to my car.

Done!
Car Door Speaker Enclosure collection - Thingiverse @DocG - I'm in Australia, I don't think you want to pay the postage from here to get a set from me, and I'm not really looking to make money off these things anyway. But it looks like if you go somewhere like here - https://www.3dhubs.com/boston - should be able to print it off for you. You just need to grab the STL files from Thingiverse and you're off to the races... cheers Al cheers Al |
Absoulely brilliant!!!!
This is the start of the DIY'er fabricating his/her own plastic replacement parts! |
Good job!
Those would be referred to as baffles, not enclosures I believe? |
