R Gruppe Rubber Floormats

Does anyone know if rubber floor mats are available for 911 SC's? I very often read about the "rubber floor mats" in R Gruppe cars profiled in Excellence. Do the rubber mats take the place of the floor mat or the entire carpet set?
Thanks

I think this is what the R-Gruppies use. Pretty sure.

AFAIK the rubber floor material used in the early SWB cars is NLA. I have a sample and have never seen the exact match. However, after all these years and all the restorations of early cars, 356's and VW's, it's got to be out there somewhere.

But, and IIRC, it 's not a floor mat per se. It was used more like the base carpet.

The above is available from Pelican thru a supplier, but I can't vouch for the ribs being the old school ones. Cal Glen at ext 240 at the toll free Pelican no. and ask him to check on this.

Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-RS-MAT)

These are described as "RS" style, not R Gruppe. Pretty much the same idea.

R Gruppe-style would be to use the factory, early floor mats in an early hotrod.

I'm just sayin' ...

BUT, before you all hammer me for that comment, here's something helpful.

First, to answer your question, the rubber mats take the place of the front and rear floor mats and toe board piece of carpet on the driver's side. The rest of the carpeting stays.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a roll of ribbed rubber - it's like $30, tops. Lay your original mats on top, trace, cut and ... TA-DA!!! Perfect fit, ribbed-rubber floor mats.

And, for added awesome, buy some leather and some rivets and make the tabs at the top (I've never seen anyone go this far with the project ... raise the bar).

What are those at the top of Pelican's rubber mats? Looks like leather straps to me.

The mats should have slits in them to go over the attachment points on the forward end of the cabin under the dash. The straps then slip through the attachment points and lock the mats in place.

I think I realized that. I was just wondering why Marco wanted us to make them from scratch.

Really Jim, some credit?

Imagine my shock when I read your post, Milt. I was so traumatized I just went into auto-reply mode.

This is what I am told the R-Gruppe guys use.............

Nothing but bare bones to keep the "Lightweight" look.

I spoke with Robert at Applied Business Concepts and he has the correct material to make them. He makes the early 65-67 mats that lay the ribs from Left to Right.

However he feels there is not enough demand to make them Front to Back, the way shown.

I will buy a set. Anyone else?
