Thoughts on heating trans fill plug

Greasy hands at the keyboard,

Swapping tranny fluid, classic stuck fill plug. Thoughts on heating it?

Kind of concerning to me considering the flamables.

Quick replies appriciated hope to get it done tonight.

Oh Well

Heated with no luck,

Looks like PB Blaster overnight then to a shop where I can get it up and stuff out of the way to really get at it tomorrow.

tranny oil will not easily catch fire..BUT it may.. so there is a danger.. the easiest way to set tranny oil on fire is to dose it with some gasoline.. then set the gas on fire first.........Ron

Can you increase your leverage before trying the heat treatment? Mine was stuck and wouldn't budge. Got the car about 6" higher, added a 18" pipe to the end of my breaker bar, and it cracked free.

Also sprayed some juice in there to loosen it up.

LIke Ron said, the flash point of tranny fluid is pretty high, and it would take a lot of concentrated heat to set it off. Hopefully the penetrating oil will do it's magic, if not try to get a cheater bar in there lik Eric said.

From the been there done that department:

I had this with my 84...both plugs were stuck. The bottom one was a ***** to say the least. Wound up drilling it out and picking the metal out of the threads. Not reccommended.

Heat is good. I used a full can of MAPP gas...everything was glowing...plug came out.

Heat works...don't worrie about the flames if I didn't catch mine on fire you should be fine.

Been there: heat, heavy-duty socket and breaker bar.

I hope you didn't drain tranny first.
