Intro and looking for any Minnesota owners
Hey everyone, looking for a potential next car and the 78-89 911 has caught my eye. Looking for a fun to drive analog style car and I keep coming back to an SC or 3.2 Carrera. The problem is I have no real experience with the brand. My background is mostly in front engine rear drive cars- ie. Corvettes. I was wondering if someone in my area would be willing to take some time, meet up and show me around their car. I'll gladly buy lunch/coffee. At least then I would have a better idea if this is something I should continue pursuing. I live in the SE Minnesota area just outside of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Thanks!

I think you would do very well going to the Automotorplex out in Chanhassen this Saturday to check out their Germanfest. If you've never been to this place for their Cars and Coffee event it's certainly an experience. The Germanfest event is strictly German cars and there is usually no small shortage of air cooled 911s there. I'm going to try and make it this weekend in my '87. I'm happy to talk to you, and I think any of the other air cooled guys are, too. Most of us love talking about our cars

I'm not in Minnesota, so unfortunately, I can't show you my car. But as someone who fairly recently bought his first 911, I think I can give you a few words of wisdom. Read as much as you can, this forum is an amazing resource, about the late model 911's. They have their quirks and it's definitely best to know before hand. Also you've picked the prime spot in the market. These cars have seen a huge rise in popularity and price over the last several years. With that said, reasonable prices can be found on good cars, you just have to keep looking (again, this forum is a great resource). Finally, with some of the repair manuals/DIY books and a good mechanic, there's no reason your car shouldn't run for many many years to come. Oh, and definitely go to that Germanfest and look at as many cars as you can.
I've had some issues here and there with my car, but there isn't a single time over the last year I've owned it that I thought "man I wish I bought a different car." Good luck and happy hunting.
