Help identifying this wire near Trans

When I pulled my engine, I found these wires (Green wire and White wire) tied up by the heater flapper box. The wires must have hit the exhaust at some point because they are melted pretty good. This was done by the PO.

Any ideas on where they should go (1978 SC)?

Thanks,

Do you have auto heat?

Does your oil level sender work? If not, check oil level sender in the oil tank, in the fender. The sender is wired with green and white through a multi-pole connector near the right tail light. The wire is routed in the right of the engine compartment, on the chassis under the oil filler neck.

Speedo works just fine, so do all my gauges. What is auto heat Dennis?

I have not checked the rear defogger....
