Engine Compartment Seal Replacement
 

So, i've searched a bunch and can't find where this has been discussed.

My compartment seal is in rough shape, so I figured while the engine is out and i'm doing all of this restoration, I should add it to the list.

I have found the rubber itself for sale on the hosts site here, but I cannot figure out how the old comes out and the new will go in.

Has anyone done this and can help with how to remove and replace? thanks in advance!

Assume engine is out. Just pull down at one end of the seal. It will come out of the groove it is installed in. You will figure it out. Lots of fun to install the new one.

Sometimes track the seal installs in is punched / crimped (To secure seal in position.) While the old seal will pull out... putting new one in without noticing a punched track is futile. Should check entire track. Easy enough to open up any punches. With soapy water... new seal slides in.

As the others said straighten out the crimps in the track then install with a plastic trim puller (looks like a plastic chisel) and silicone spray. Very tedious and a PITA job.

Seal is out, but i have some spots in my track that are wasted... and need to be replaced...

Does anyone not run this track and seal at all? Is the purpose just to separate upper engine from road grime, etc?

Has anyone replaced this track or portions of it?

The seal also keeps the warm air from below the motor (that is heated by the cylinders) from getting sucked into the engine room and defeating the air cooling. You need the skirts.

Ok, will keep the seal then.... so, on to replacing some of the track... I can't even find the parts... it's a weld-in piece, any ideas?

You can fabricate one from sheet metal and screw it to the body. Why is it missing rust?

It's just horribly smashed up in a few spots. I may just try to reshape all of it and reuse what is there.
