Wiring cover - if it wasn't there before, then the shop's given you an early Christmas present.
|
It goes under the carpet
|
Blower cover, perhaps they removed and forgot to replace it. Did you have something done to your gauges or heater blower? Pull up your frunk center carpet or unsnap it next to the cowl and pull it away from cowl it covers the blower assembly and all the stuff you can get too from that area. Attaches with 4 bolts.

A $500 dollar piece of cardboard.
|
Is the cruise control under there by any chance?

That's the cover over the wiring and ventilation parts in the frunk.
Looks like sloppy work from the shop. |
He did take my cruise control out and was planning on reinstalling when it came back. If the cruise box in under that panel, maybe that's why he left it out?

The cruise computer is behind that panel - that's why it was left out. Pull the carpet back and you'll see a rectangular plug near the master cylinder.

|
+1 yes, CC module sits behind the panel.

Yours looks a little different (e.g. on driver's side no flap because you have d vacuum assist MC). HTH |
Thanks guys!

Just curious, why do you call it a frunk? It is just a trunk. Do you call the rear trunk on a regular front engine car a Rrunk?
When I had a 914 it had a front trunk and a rear trunk. Just curious. |
That is a piece of junk. Send it to me and I will throw it away for you. I will even pay shipping.h

Had the cruise control module put back in today. I asked the shop about the panel. My tech was like, why put it back on if we're going to just pull it off again a few days later. He makes a good point :-)

It's the frunks mouse slide.
When installed properly it becomes their half pipe. I too have a 914 and now call the front trunk the frunk and the rear one the trunk, which confuses the h#ll out of elephants and slow witted people. |
I had a boxster and then I raced a 914 for a while so just got in the habit of using the term. And like I said above, it's also fun to say.

But I still have to wonder, if a 914 or Boxster has a frunk why not a rrunk in the back? |

I used this term over on ESR and got flamed for it. It's just lingo so I don't understand why people purposely hyper-focus on a word, as if they don't understand what I'm referring to or it makes them so enraged they can't answer my question.
Those guys aren't very friendly. |
It's funny how this piece of the car used to be a throwaway and could be had for pennies on the dollar in the not too distant past. Now the "period correct" purists and wacky market pricing of these cars have driven this piece of fiberboard up to $500? That's nuts.
I recently gave one away (yes, free) to Pelicanite dtw Dave for all the good service he's provided in selling me good used parts over the years. I'll keep doing just that for other people in need, until there's a lot less of these cars in the world. When parts for these cars become a lot more rare, which I don't see happening any time soon, then will I put a higher value on these parts. Right now I just can't see how this thing is $500. There's thousands of them available from dismantlers or folks with a stash of parts collected over the years. I sold another part, no longer available new from Porsche, to a fella for $32 shipped. It's the magnet ring inside the 915 trans that triggers the speedo sensor. What should I have sold that for? $500? |
