3.2 Fuel Plumbing
Could someone please help me learn the factory Carrera 3.2 arrangement of fuel hoses from the rear of the tunnel to the fuel filter and on to the engine (including which metal fittings are used)? And also for the return from the engine to the rear of the tunnel? I am looking to replace these sections of hose and was thinking of returning it to a stock setup as I think there are some flaws in the existing setup (engine was swapped into a '76 car). For instance, I have the filter lying in a horizontal orientation and the input hose makes almost a 180 degree turn with no metal fitting to make the turn. There is consequently severe cracking where it is stretched.

Try the parts catalog. They have pretty good diagrams of the fuel plumbing. At least you can compare to what you have going on now.

![]() ![]() The factory 3.2 Carrera used Green Hardlines from the tunnel to the Filter inlet and from the motor back to the tunnel. However these will not fit the 76 911. Porsche made many changes during this time and superceded lines & hoses & fuel pumps, and now most of this is NLA. Here is the Stock 3.2 Carrera fuel filter location. Note the green hardline at the lower inlet of the filter........ ![]() I build replacement hoses using the correct Metric fittings and E-85 rated hose, and also offer E-85 rated Polyamid tunnel lines and replacement front fuel hoses. ![]() ![]() The 2nd photo shows my Metric E-85 rated braided SS hose assys for a 3.2 Carrera. The 3rd photo shows my Polyamid tunnel lines and E-85 rated plain rubber hoses for a 911SC. To use these you must relocate your filter back to the stock 3.2 Carrera location. If you prefer to keep what you have, I can provide a feed hose to the filter with one of these custom Metric hose ends.......... ![]() that would allow the 180 deg turn that you speak of. You can also see this hose in the photo above. It goes to the fuel accumulator in a 911SC. For information please email me. Go to my user name and pick "send email". Thanks very much Len. I now understand why the factory 3.2 rear lines were not used in my install. I think I will revert to the factory vertical orientation of the fuel filter when making up new lines. Do you sell metric fittings for those of us making our own lines? I was planning to make lines with Oetiker "ear clamps". Thanks.

![]() ![]() After looking back on this thread I thought I should bring it up to the top. This is an important point I would like to make once again......... ![]() The Fuel Filter outlet hose shown at the top in this photo has been crimped incorrectly. This is somewhat commonplace with local hydraulic shops that do not have the correct Metric crimp sleeves or dies. Theirs are too long and they crush the hose at the bump of the fitting meant to retain the hose. ![]() ![]() ![]() Its a good idea to periodically inspect the fuel Hoses & Fittings on all Porsche models. These wonderful cars must be cared for and preserved for generations to come. Len at Autosportengineering dot com ![]() Last edited by BoxsterGT; 09-20-2016 at 10:42 AM.. |
