Shocks

I'm wondering if it is possible to change shocks on a 82 sc without a lift. I have completely stock suspension. Doing it on jack stands if possible? Any advice would be great

Why not? Can you get the car off of the ground one corner at a time with a jack?

I did mine really easily using two jack stands under the front torsion bar caps.

It's actually easier than most cars because your 911 has no coil springs.

I changed out suspension on the ground with jack stands once just fine. A lift definitely makes it easier, but it can be done without one no problem. Maybe you can check out the QuickJack for feature projects like this in your garage. Good luck with the install.

No need for lift. The tricky part was to get all stuck parts off

Sounds to me your friend should make up for his bunk advice by letting you put your car on his lift.

It's easy on jack stands... no worse than doing brake work. Just make sure it's stable before you get under it.

Has he ever worked on an air cooled Porsche?

I have done suspension work on my 911 many times with jack stands. It's not a problem.

I completely disassembled my front and rear suspension and refurbished it while on jackstands.

The rear top bolts are tricky due to the CIS intake being in the way. Get ready to work blind. I supported my engine and did a partial drop to access them.
