Overhead Fan kit ala 907 Flat 8!

I was looking some flat 8 porn when I found this page "Ferdinand the Cult of Porsche" and they have this kit to place your fan on top of the engine like Porsche racing engines. Anyway they had this video showing it up, it is awesome! I would love to have this done it would sure be something different!

Enjoy!

Sweet. I wonder what they cost and how long do they last?

Checked the page and also another page for EB-Motorsports in UK, but did not saw the kit. I guess it was something that were in the works but wasn't completed. The write up talks about some loss of power, but not significant. Maybe they decided to not go through with it, who knows. Still I wouldn't mind having one!

There were a couple of prototypes in development over the years. They had problems with the gears and fan not holding up. The $8K price was also an issue.

Edit: Sounds like I underestimated the $$$

lpsalsaman,

2 things:

1. Just how would you fit this to your car with intake system it has?

2. The power loss would be more than you would want.

The fit seems not to be an issue, and if you saw the video they made a new engine cover that fits the fan. However, reading a bit on the article the power issue was something addressed and at least for what I understood, it would affect more a regular fuel injected car than a turbo powered one. I guess they figure a turbo powered or supercharge engine will make up the difference.

Wow that setup and the one from the Ferdinand page I posted look very similar. Yeah the price is one that will turn you away with the quickness that is for sure! Although the look is just awesome, especially if you have a tribute RSR type car.

No. Where is your single plenum fuel injection system supposed to fit with the fan on top????

The power loss is not insignificant and you don't have a turbo or supercharged engine.

The RSR type cars did not use the horizontal fan.

Flat fans were only used on 917, 935 and air-cooled 962's.

Its a 30-35 BHP power loss; a worthwhile tradeoff for a 600-800+ BHP turbocharged engine.

Steve,
I'm not advocating this as if I were selling it and your input has merit as I see you are knowledgeable on this subject as part of Rennsport. So with that said, you have to admit that the setup looks really good, and I'm sure others would love having something like this as well. Which was mostly my point from bringing it up. But given the fact that it would have some issues with power that would detract me from having it. If not, I wouldn't mind having it myself. Anyway hope you all are having a great day!
