Dumb Cigarette Lighter Question
Haven't had this car all that long and I don't smoke, but I do like everything working the way it should.
Should the lighter light up like the knobs next to it? Doubt it but I thought I'd ask. Second question, do you push the lighter in, click it into place, and then the lighter pops out when it gets hot? Mine will depress in, but it doesn't lock into place till it gets hot like any other lighter I've ever used. If you press it in, it will just pop right back out. Take a look at a generic replacement lighter at a parts store. There are flaps that are spread and hook up with the receptacle. You should be able to DIY the lighter. It should work if you have power and a good element.

Yes there light bulb with lighter and should pop-up when hot.

So what's wrong with mine then where it doesn't click into place and get hot? Is the inner sleeve shot out? Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |
The element may be burnt out or corroded, put a volt meter to it and check the voltage or resistance on the lighter itself, that could be faulty. 31+ years probably worn out. 80's we use to smoke allot :D

I have a lighter for sale in the classifieds, should you want another one. It's never lit a cigarette, so it's probably not worn out...

How much?

I'd take $30, plus $7 to ship it in a USPS small flat rate box.

I may take it off your hands. Let me see what's up with mine first. Thanks!

I have no idea how a lighter stays pushed in, so I can't tell you how to test one. Photos of what I have:
