Dear Friends,
I have this 1976 911S that came with any oil cooling system, no even the trombone, so I bought a few part to install an oil cooling system, now i need some help on how to install it - I have a Setrab oil radiator where differently from Carrera radiator style where both inlets are on the top of the radiator, mine have one on the bottom and one on the top of it and I would like to flow the oil from bottom to top - The thermostat is a Improved racing, where again differently from the original Porsche thermostat, mine have a "H" shape Finally I have the engine and the hoses that connect the oil to and from the Oil tank, where honestly I donŽt know who is who not even the flow of the oil in this configuration So, I took a picture of the hose on the engine where I GUESSING is the one IŽll cut and split and send on side TO the radiator and the other FROM the radiator I just want to double check with some very knowledge member of Pelican which is which, kepping in mind that the FROM ENGINE part of mine thermostat is the side that eventually will fill up the radiator from the bottom Thanks Ricardo ![]()

You are correct. You need to replace this single oil return hose from the oil pump to the oil tank with two new hoses. The feed from the oil pump goes to the thermostat bottom port. A second hose takes this oil from the thermostat top port to the oil tank. Since you are using a non-stock thermostat, you will have to fabricate the two hoses unless the kit comes with the two hoses you need to go to the thermostat and then back to the tank. With the standard thermostat used with either the trombone or carrera cooler, you simply buy the stock hoses from Pelican.

![]() Here are the factory layouts for both early & late versions that run to a Factory Thermostat........... ![]() What you have in your photo above is the early 30mm cross-under line (911-107-739-10) and if you use the thermostat pictured w AN-12 fittings you must adapt to connect these together. You would make up custom hoses to run up front to a cooler. Aeroquip lines & fittings are not cheap. Don't buy the Chinese stuff whatever you do. In MHO you would be better off going to good used factory hardlines & thermostat and if necessary adapt up front to a inexpensive cooler w AN fittings. I can help with Metric Hoses and my Direct-Connect AN-12 fittings, but there really is no low-cost way to do this. ![]() Len at Autosportengineering dot com

![]() Looking back over this thread, the Setrab units have the benefit of fittings that can be either M30 or AN-12. This gives you the option as mentioned above. No matter if its mounted in the fenderwell or up front, your cooler you will also need a 180 deg fitting......... ![]() .... to allow both feed & return hoses to point in the same direction. How do you plan on mounting the cooler? Here is what I use as the support to allow rubber buffers that eliminate any destructive vibration....... ![]() Len

Hi Len,
Tomorrow IŽll post you some pictures of how iŽm intend to install the oil cooler Basicaly IŽll put it in the front fender ( carrera Style) but my setrab oil cooler have one inlet on the top and another inlet on the bottom The idea is to use a straight Aeroquip on the top and a 90 aeroquip on the bottom to go up and encounter the other hose and then connect them to the rigid oil lines |
