Porsche Classic Dashboard 69-73 - any updates?

I know it was big news a year or so ago that Porsche Classic was selling repop dashes, but the even bigger news was they were not universally admired for their quality.

OK, let me re-phrase - most people seemed to think they were crap. Mostly because the speaker perforations were "off" and there was also a visible "ghost" of the later model dash vent cutout. Neither pleasing when buying a $1350 part.

Any word of improvements since then or viable alternatives? I know of Carpoint and Lakewell both seem to be out of stock at present.

Just wait till Lakewell replenishes their stock. Their dash is as close to original as you will find! In fact all their products are first class! I bought a complete carpet set from them and it's made to original specs and is perfect.

Got a porsche classic in my '72. You can stick a finger in the gap at the right A pillar. The rows of holes in the speaker grille look like a drunk aligned them. When I paint the car, I'll get a lakewell.

I am not familiar with Lakewood. They have a lot of stuff I need. Are all their products high quality?
Wood love to see some interior photos from anyone that has used them.
Thanks, Rich

I had one on order from Lakewell a few months ago and then got an email informing me the mold they use to make these was broken. They gladly refunded my money and I found one from someone who had a Lakewell dash they had previously purchased. You should email them and see if they are back in production.

I ordered a dash from Lakewell a weeks weeks back and delivery is going to be January

I ordered seat rebuild kits for my 73. Got the perforated vinyl. My installer thought they were leather. Beautiful work.

I ordered a dash from Lakewell before their mold broke, and got the "we are delayed/you can get a refund if desired". I decided just to just go with it.

I just got an email from them that my dash is shipping and should arrive in about 10 days, so they must have a new mold and be back in production. Good news.

I'm looking forward to getting my dashboard!

Can you post some photos when you get it.

Will do.

I emailed them to inquire about availability, and it took a few days for him to get back to me but I was told I can get a spot on the waiting list by ordering and if I did I could expect about Dec 20th...

hmmm....... just in time for Christmas!

I, too, would love to see photos of their current offering. I've done a bunch of research on various forums and there seems to be quite a bit of debate and confusion over who is selling what, made by whom, etc.

However, Lakewell seems to come out on top most of the time.

They told me to expect delivery around Oct 12. Pics when it comes in.

I purchased an excellent reproduction black vinyl dash for my 73 from CarPoint GmbH in Germany. It cost 920 Euro including shipping in 2012. The only issue was that the speaker grill was not removable but was perfect in every other respect. Startseite - CarPoint. Looks like only for 68-73. Th 74 thru 89 are out of stock, but you could email them to find out restock info. Armaturenbrett Leder Porsche 911, 68-73, LHD - CarPoint. Lots of other stuff too.

I received detailed pics today of the Carpoint dash and it looks identical to the Lakewell one.

I'm in the process of getting an order processed with them for the dash, knee pads, and door tops. Will report back when I receive the parts early next week.

You should probably get a new installer.
Lol

It came in a little early. Overall it looks very nice, but unfortunately was damaged prior to delivery. Kind of hard to take, since I've been waiting since March/April for this. I have an email in to Lakewell and am hoping we can get this remedied quickly.

You can see the damaged spot, about halfway up the dash right near the edge that goes next to the windshield. Other than that (Mrs. Lincoln!!) it looks great.

Here's one I took up close of the damaged area to send back to Lakewell, but you get a better look at the grain of the dash material as well.

Careful application of heat from a heat gun and massage with your fingers often gets those dents out, or at least barely noticeable.

wbyonder 10-08-2016 06:05 PM

Thanks, I may end up doing that, but I think I'll wait until I get some guidance from Lakewell.
