Not much oil in a car that's sat for years

Hey Fellas,

I'm bringing an 82SC back to life that's sat for 10+ years. Tonight I drained the from the tank and block and there was only 3-4 quarts at best. I'm assuming it's just sitting in the lines and cooler. Is there an easy way to flush the cooler and lines for old oil?

Thanks!

Ryan

Garage
I would think that the oil bled past the oil pump through the cylinders/ bypass tubes and drained on the floor wherever it was sitting
I had a similar situation with my 1981 that sat for 14 years it had very little oil left in it.
If I don't start it every few weeks I will get an oil leak.

Billy,

Thanks. Makes sense. A drop a day adds up, right? Haha.

don't worry about flushing.
I don't know if you ever get all the oil out anyway when you do an oil change.
I have 2 separate oil coolers and I doubt the oil drains from the front cooler, maybe if I jacked the front up but then still not sure if it would all come out.

good question for someone that has removed the oil lines and coolers, how much was still in there

Flushing may not be worth the effort unless you suspect contamination of the oil for some reason (didn't sound like it though). But since it's been sitting and may have built up some contaminants or condensation in the engine, you might consider doing a shorter than usual interval for your first oil change after you get 'er running. Personally I'd drive it a few hundred miles and change it.

If the oil has been sitting in the car for more than 10 years, I would definitely get all of the old oil out. You'll have to do some disassembly to do that.

just dump 10 litres of conventional 20w50 in . Warm it up until the oil cooler opens , if it driveable maybe drive it 15 miles, dive the last mile in scond gear in higher revs to spike the temperature ... so to ensure the stat is wide open... get home run round back with your ready oil pan and 15mm and 19mm wrench . dump it out, its now flushed..

10-4.

And the oil that did come out actually looked pretty decent.
