OK guys, here's another "odd" problem I'm hoping someone else out there has experienced. On my '82 SC if you pull back on the W/S wiper stalk, the washers squirt, but the wipers will not run until you let go. As a result, if you activate the washers, let go, and need to "squirt" again, the wipers will stop dead in their tracks until you've released the lever. Makes it difficult to effectively wash the windshield. Anyone have this problem before?

I haven't had this problem, but when it's really wet (lots of rain or rain for a few straight days) mine start to act funny. My thought is the humidity affects my switch, so I probablyneed to either take apart and clean the switch or get a new one. I would think that you are in the same boat.

Yeah, I haven't torn into the W/S wiper switch yet, but given the track record of the hi/lo beam switch, it's probably a good start. I'll be under the dash installing a new ignition switch (electrical portion only) this weekend so I guess I will pull the W/S wiper switch for a look.

I just 'tore into' my wiper switch to correct a condition where my wipers would only work on slow. Moving the lever to med or hi would cause them to stop. Problem in my case was that the contacts inside the switch had become corroded to the point where it was only making sufficient contact on low.
I cut a piece of fine sand paper and ran it thru both sides of the switch contacts a few times (pretty easy to do) after cleaning whatever gunk I could with a small brush. works like a champ now -- don't know if this would fix your problem tho In my case it was better than the $125 or so to replace. todd =-=-=-=-=-=-=- 86 cpe |

Mine does all kinds of wierd stuff. Research I've done points to a good cleaning before ya go and get a new switch. Usually fixes it. Plan on getting around to that if I ever get my car back.
