Thanks for all the comments. I've enjoyed hearing all your view points. My Dad and I will be restoring it back to stock 1st. That was and is my plan. I wouldn't do the flares and such til down the road, 1 or 2 yeas down the road, at which time my thoughts may have changed. I've seen a bit about rolling the fenders and am even looking into aftermarket rims to allow a wider tire instead of adding flares. I like the ideas working on suspension and bolt on changes 1st. Those will be done first. The last thing I want to do is to ruin the car. It's a car I want to keep and hand down to my daughter.

Pretty sure I'll talk you out of doing it on your car!

Well, it has been a few weeks since I last posted and wanted to give an update. We have started the tear down.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477844869.jpg I've pulled all the brakes and about ready to start rebuilding the calipers. I have to say using a grease gun was the only way to get the pistons out. I tried the air compressor and just wasn't very successful not to mention when the pistons did come out they came out like a bullet. Not fun. At least w the grease gun it was slow and controllable. I may have more clean up but I'll take that to losing a finger. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477845055.jpg I got new rotors from Cquence and opted for the slotted rotors. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477845120.jpg I've pulled all the old oil cooler lines and am going to be replacing them. The ss braided lines were looking a bit rough and the guy who installed them didn't do, what I would call, a good job. It would have worked but aesthetically speaking could have been better and there were some bends that were a bit to sharp. So, I got all new braided lines and AN's fittings. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477845180.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477844917.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477845226.jpg We've pulled the gas tank and need to get the front pans replaced/repaired. I knew we needed to do this. Common issue with the older style batteries. We will be relocating the battery to the smugglers hold and using a newer leak proof battery. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477844963.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477845009.jpg We've pulled and will be replacing the gas tank. The old tank has some gunk in it that would clog up the carbs. We thought we had gotten it cleaned out but no good. So, now we've decided to go w a new tank and save some time and headache. Carbs are pulled and ready to be rebuilt. But first we need to drop the engine and check the clutch as it's stuck. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1477844824.jpg I've ordered new heater hoses for the heater boxes and am waiting on their arrival later this week. I need to clean up the heat control boxes and hopefully won't need to replace them. I'm also going to be putting on PMO's solid fuel rails and replacing the fuel lines w ss braid lines. After much thought, I've decided to keep the fenders stock. I'm going to go with performance enhancing bolt on's. Better bang for my buck and easier to reverse if I want to take it back to pure "original/stock". Well, I think that is about it for the moment. I'll post more as I get the chance. |
With a car that nice and original I'd look to some early 911R cars for inspiration
Maybe just graphics, or if you wanted to go crazy, a bolt on tail and bolt on 911R style 1/4 windows. That way you wouldn't be hacking into anything. A bit of graphics would go a long way though compared to the slippery slope of adding flares to an already $60k+ car |
